The Caretaker is a supercomputer from the Classics portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Caretaker is a supercomputer designed by Vector Sigma to aid Breakaway during his assignment on one version of Earth. Primus placed Breakaway and the Caretaker within the planet billions of years ago, while it was still forming ^[1]. It has served as his knowledge database all these years to fulfill a yet-unspecified purpose.

The Caretaker's technology is beyond quantum science, with embedded string circuitry, utilizing "chaos-entangled supersymmetric twelve-dimensional processing." An independent terminal which is attached to the Vector Sigma Gestalt, it can grant access to various Vector Sigma nodes via a space bridge.

As Autobots and Decepticons battled in South America, Cliffjumper, Skyfall, and Landquake fell into a subterranean chamber. Crossing Over: Part 4 After meeting Breakaway, Crossing Over: Part 5 they were introduced to the Caretaker. With Skyfall, Landquake, and Breakaway united, its purpose was almost fulfilled, but to ensure the multiverse would not ultimately spiral into entropy, the Caretaker urged the three to travel through its space bridge to a Vector Sigma node in another universe, where the three would reunite with a fourth member. After some hesitation, they proceeded, along with Cliffjumper. Crossing Over: Part 6
