Category talk:Siblings
From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki
I'm sorry- what does this Category... do? Are all of these characters siblings of one another? Do they all actually fall into a group? -Derik 02:28, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- Nobody knows! This category's been on lifesupport since the beginning. --ItsWalky 02:30, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- I declare it useless! -Derik 02:33, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm all for a single Category that covers brothers/sisters/cousins among the TFs. (Humans, less so.) I don't much like the idea of making it an article though, not the least reason being that we've been DELETING list-pages left and right, which is all this article would be. Never mind the updating work, which is automatically done as a Category. --M Sipher 02:40, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- So, you think a category like- 'TF relatives' is useful for someoen who wants to get an idea of which TF's have established relatives. "Hey, I didn't know the Mini-con Clench was related to someone..." and you got o his page to find out he was listed as Leader-1's cousin in some obscure guidebook?
- This still makes 'Cousins' as a category worthless, but I dont' disagree with your logic. -Derik 02:43, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- I think Derik's description of Sipher's idea sounds perfect, aside from the typos. "Transformer families" or "Transformers with relatives" or something. --Steve-o 03:39, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- "Related TFs"?
- And to my thinking, the whole point of such categories is if someone looks up G1 Sideswipe, they'll notice a "Related TFs" category and go "huh? There's more?", and click, and find out that familial relations among TFs aren't uncommon... and also hopefully find wicked-ass characters like Brushguard in the process. --M Sipher 03:44, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- I think "Related TFs" isn't clear enough. If I saw that at the bottom of a character's page I would think it was a link to Transformers that are related -- not as family, but like associated -- to that particular character. --Steve-o 03:57, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm starting a new indent tree because the old one is too indenty. Yes, to Derik. One of the earlier complaints about the siblings or cousins category was that it could be misinterpreted as meaning, like... "are all these characters each others' cousins?" The name of the category should make it explicit that we aren't looking at a single family. Not everyone in the category is kin to each other. --Steve-o 05:07, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- 'Has Relatives' -Derik 05:10, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Since the issue seems to be one of 'are all these guys related' why not group the entries on the list by groups of siblings? Maybe list the first sibling (by alphabetical order) and indent his brother below it, cousins or uncles go on down, etc.
- Like so...
- Big Brobot
- Little Brobot (brother)
- Middle Brobot (brother)
- Cousbot (cousin)
- Big Brobot
I just wrote this, but I don't know what title should we name for it or where we should place it.:) --TX55 10:06, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Move/recover
Now that the category has already been emptied and deleted... maybe we should actually make a decision about it. I think a "Transformers with relatives" category is a good idea. There are more than enough characters, and it's an unusual attribute that I imagine some readers will be interested by. There is already a list of characters on the Relatives page, but it could stand to be pared down, and probably isn't all-inclusive anyway. --Steve-o 22:02, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. It's a phenomenon that pops up often enough to be noteworthy, but not so often that noting it is a kind of "the sky is blue" deal. --M Sipher 22:10, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
