A Core bomb was a piece of technology from the Generation 1 continuity family.

A Core bomb was a weapon of Quintesson design which served as a planet killer allowing for the destruction of an entire world.

The Quintessons had a core bomb installed somewhere on their homeworld of Quintessa which they detonated thus destroying the planet in their attempt at eliminating the leader of the Autobots along with the Matrix of Leadership. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 2
