Once Legendary warriors, the Dinobots traveled the vastness of space and time in the Knights Temenos. However, they lost control of their ship after it was taken over by the mercenary bounty hunter Lockdown. He then imprisoned them in their own ship.

Age of Extinction film
The Dinobots were imprisoned in the center of Lockdown's ship. The Autobots commandeered it after Optimus remembered the ship, but they were soon shot down by Galvatron's army and separated when it crashed outside Hong Kong.
Hearing a call for help from their fellow Autobots trapped in the city, Optimus Prime frees the Dinobots. At first they do not see optic-to-optic, and the Dinobots' leader, Grimlock, fight with Optimus. Optimus soon defeats him, and following their leader, the rest of the Dinobots, Scorn, Slug and Strafe, agree to working with the Autobots. The Autobots mount up in their new steeds and ride into battle to assist their friends.
- The only Dinobots to appear in Age of Extinction are Grimlock, Scorn, Strafe and Slug.
