Whenever a Japanese Transformers series is produced and brought over to America or another country (or vice versa), it must be translated via dubbing for its new audiences. In addition, cultural specifics are often changed, mainly because things like White Day seem strange when the series is assumed to be set in the United States.
It should be noted that strange changes pop up after dubbing, like random gender switches.
Dubs are often targets of criticism in regards to voice-acting, script-writing, and/or spelling, among other things. However, like B-movies, ill-dubbed series may have a certain endearing quality to some.
