Release[]

It did not begin at the same time as the The Transformers did in North America. Episodes 1 to 13 of this edition aired every Saturday at 9:30 on Nippon Television Network from July 6, 1985. On some local airings, these 30 minute episodes were cut down to 25 minutes to allow commercial time, this did not apply to episode 14 onwards, however. From episode 14, which was a clip-show exclusive to this edition that aired on October 11, 1985, to episode 62 (which aired on September 26, 1986), each episode aired on Friday 17:30 and from episode 63 (which aired on October 3, 1986) to episode 68 (which aired on November 7, 1986), each episode aired on Friday 17:00. Episodes 69 to 72 were omnibus episodes. Of course, the runs would overlap and as certain episodes were swapped around, said episodes would air in Japan before they did in North America.

Attack of the Autobots and Day of the Machines would eventually be dubbed in Japanese when Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers got a LaserDisc release from Pioneer in the 90s. They would become episode 73 and 74, respectively.
