This article is about the Decepticon Micromaster. For the unmade Autobot Turbomaster, see Hyperdrive (Autobot).

Hyperdrive is a Decepticon Micromaster in the Generation One continuity family.

"Hell yeah, I CAN tell you how late it is!"

Hyperdrive is violent, destructive, and likes nothing better than "putting one in the CPU" of wounded Autobots. Even his teammates in the Sports Car Patrol are put off by his ignoble nature.[1] On the plus side... no wait, he's just a jerk. No depth here.

Marvel comics continuity[]

Note: Events from the UK-only comic stories are in italics.

Hyperdrive and his cohorts were created by Thunderwing and his scientists after studying the captive Autobot Battle Patrol and thus replicating Emirate Xaaron's Micromaster process. A Small War!

After Megatron began rebuilding his power base on Cybertron, Hyperdrive and the Sports Car Patrol were some of his first recruits. Using the trans-dimensional patrol, Hyperdrive participated in the infiltration of the Ark, joining his fellow Micromasters in tricking Ratchet into believing that they were Autobots on their way back to Cybertron. Hyperdrive, being a loud-mouthed and obnoxious thug, somehow managed to keep quiet long enough for them to fool the Autobot medic and take him prisoner at Megatron's base on Cybertron. When Ratchet eventually outsmarted Megatron and reactivated his buddies (Jazz, Grimlock, and Bumblebee), Hyperdrive and the other henchmen had a running battle with the Autobots which took them outside the base and, luckily, out of range of the massive explosion which leveled the entire complex. The Sports Car Patrol presumably survived, but were never seen again. Skin Deep

Such a waste...

Hyperdrive was one of the many Micromasters being created by the Autobots and Decepticons in a joint venture after the launch of the Ark. Like many others, he appeared to be overall neutral, belonging neither to the Autobots nor the Decepticons. He could first be seen hanging out in a secret nightclub in Little Iacon with the rest of the Micromasters and subsequently witnessing a race between Big Daddy and Roadhandler. The Gray Race After the end of the race, the whole group of Micromasters was attacked by the Insecticons, who were in search of the Hot Rod Patrol. Hyperdrive was one of the first Micromasters to pull out his gun and had his sole speaking line here, calling upon his fellow Micromasters to "waste" the Insecticons. Recipe for Hate This didn't prevent him from being caught prisoner by them, though. After being freed together with the other prisoners by a team led by Countdown and Groundshaker a little while later, he partook in a march of the Micromasters to end a battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. He was one of those carrying the severed head of Shockwave. Victims of the Revolution

Hyperdrive and the Sports Car Patrol were highly advanced warriors apparently in the service of the Dead Universe. They ran afoul of Nightbeat on Gorlam Prime while protecting the "hole in the world". Hyperdrive and his compatriots captured the inquisitive Autobot and subjected him to an unknown procedure before letting him go. Spotlight: Nightbeat

Toys[]

His real toy is even more blue!

Generation One[]

  • Sports Car Patrol (Micromaster Patrol, 1989)
Hyperdrive transforms into a cyan Plymouth X2S concept car. He was only available in a "Patrol" four-pack with his teammates Blackjack, Detour and Road Hugger.
This mold was redecoed into the Japanese toy Gingham, and was apparently the basis for the non-toy character Clipper.

Notes[]

  • Most - if not all - of the toys pictured in the 1990 Hasbro Transformers catalogue are unfinished prototypes or mock-ups, and a variety of differences from the final products pop up. In Hyperdrive's case, the face and crotch are coloured red, whereas the final toy has them in dark blue.
