Megatron is the antagonist of Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and Transformers: The Last Knight.

History[]

1969[]

When Megatron came online, it was obvious that some time had passed. Not only was he encased in a primitive transport, but there were lifeforms fighting over him. Before Megatron could properly exterminate them, another crude transport crashed into his, causing a massive (but not spark-threatening) explosion. Megatron would have been pleased to know that the fire only added to his terrifying visage in the eyes of the maggots. Regaining his composure, Megatron noticed Phillip Nolan standing near him. As Megatron reached out to grab it, Thomas Kinnear, this one terminally damaged, began firing crude projectiles which his body armor easily deflected. Waiting until after the creature had expended its ammunition, Megatron grabbed it in his hand, only to discover that it had packed itself with explosives, which threw Megatron to the ground when they detonated. Then, the aforementioned first insect began spraying liquid nitrogen on Megatron, causing him to go back into stasis. Unable to escape, Megatron screamed a dark vengeance upon his captors. Megatron frozen

Megatron eventually succeeded in tracking the All Spark to Earth, where he rather embarrassingly crash-landed in the Arctic Circle and was frozen solid for thousands of years. In 1897, some 100 Earth-years before the arrival of the other Transformers, he was discovered by an explorer named Archibald Amundsen Witwicky by an accident. Captain Witwicky accidentally activated Megatron's navigation system and caused the coordinates of the All Spark to be etched onto the explorer's glasses. Megatron remained imprisoned in the Arctic, until the 1930s, when he was dug out by the United States government and moved to a secret Sector Seven stronghold inside Hoover Dam. In the years that followed, many modern devices (by Earth standards) were supposedly reverse-engineered from his frozen body.

In the present day, having searched the galaxy for the All Spark and being drawn to Earth, the remaining Decepticons learned of Witwicky's glasses. Through the Internet, they determined the location of both Megatron and the All Spark inside Hoover Dam. Frenzy infiltrated the dam and shut down the power systems, while Starscream attacked the external powerlines, resulting in Megatron's thawing out. Once again online, the leader of the Decepticons informed the worthless insects of his true name, shouting "I am Megatron!" (to clear up all that N.B.E.-01/Ice Man nonsense), randomly killed a few of them while destroying his former prison with his mace, then transformed and flew off after the All Spark again. He met up with Starscream on the outside, and, never one for pleasantries, demanded to know where the Cube was. Upon learning that the humans had moved the All Spark, Megatron berated Starscream for yet another failure and ordered him to "get" the humans.

Movie Megatron breakout

Megatron unfreezes and goes on a short rampage

After Starscream and Devastator's opening attacks in Mission City, Megatron arrived. The Autobots were so panicked by the sight of their long lost nemesis that Jazz called for a temporary retreat, bravely and somewhat recklessly facing Megatron alone despite a human's cries for him to fall back. When the smaller Autobot shot at him, angering him, Megatron blasted him backwards, injuring him. Deciding to finish Jazz off with his bare hands, Megatron tossed him into the air before crushing him on top of a tower with his clawed talons. Jazz vainly fought on, asking if Megatron wanted a "piece" of him, but doing little damage to Megatron. The Decepticon leader killed the Autobot by tearing him in half, callously declaring that he wanted "two".

As the human boy ran off with the All Spark, Megatron ordered the Decepticons to attack. Brawl attacked the "armed insects", while Starscream and Blackout fought Ironhide and Ratchet for the All Spark. At that moment, Optimus Prime dramatically appeared and challenged Megatron. Thousands of years in the ice, however, had done nothing to lessen Megatron's hatred for his brother. Barely managing to growl out Prime's name, he threw away Jazz's remains, transformed and flew at Prime at full speed. The Autobot leader leapt and grabbed a hold of Megatron, who slammed him into a building before flying right through an office block. Both leaders landed in the middle of an intersection, but Megatron was the first to recover and leaped upon his brother, snarling that the humans were undeserving of life. Optimus Prime replied that they had the right to choose for themselves. Hearing this, the snarling Megatron tossed Optimus aside.

Megatron declared that if Prime wished to defend them, he should "join them in extinction", forming his fusion cannon. Before he could fire, the Autobot leader drew his ion blaster and fired, hitting Megatron. The Decepticon leader shrugged off this attack, spun around from the momentum and fired his cannon, throwing Optimus Prime into the side of a building.

Megatron pursued the young human who had removed the All Spark from the Hoover Dam, destroying everything that stood in his way. The boy ran to a dilapidated building that was the designated coordinates for a human military evacuation team, and Megatron smashed his way through, yelling that he could smell the human maggot. Starscream destroyed the helicopter intended to take the All Spark, and Megatron burst through the floor, inquiring if it was courage or fear that compelled him. Finally cornering him on a ledge, Megatron offered that if the human gave him the All Spark, the boy might live as his pet. The Decepticon leader relished the human's defiant refusal and destroyed the ledge the human was standing upon, sending the boy tumbling to the ground.

Movie Megatron maceattack

Unfortunately, the human was caught by Optimus Prime, who then tried to escape down the side of the building before Megatron tackled him and sent all three slamming into the pavement. As a nearby human bystander attempted to crawl away, the Decepticon expressed his disgust at the insect's proximity and flicked it away. Protecting the young boy, Prime declared that their war would end here and it was now just between the two brothers. Though lusting for the All Spark, Megatron decided to indulge his brother's obvious death wish, declaring that only he was in this fight. Despite Optimus Prime's best efforts, Megatron was relentless, matching the Autobot leader with blow after devastating blow until he collapsed. Adding insult to injury, Megatron informed Prime that his defense of the "weak" was the real reason he lost.

Megatron is killed by the All Spark

The Decepticon leader turned his attention back to the human boy, but was suddenly attacked by the human fighter jets and Captain Lennox's ground soldiers firing sabot rounds. Optimus took this chance, striking Megatron and knocking him down. His armor damaged, Megatron ignored the punishment and focused on the human boy, growling that he would kill the boy and that the All Spark was his. As Optimus Prime ordered the boy to place the All Spark into his chest, Sam instead pushed it into the now-exposed spark in Megatron's chest, overloading him with energy and extinguishing the Decepticon's life force. As Optimus Prime stood over Megatron's lifeless shell, watching the light flicker out of his brother's optics, he remarked somberly, yet remorsefully, that Megatron had left him no choice, and removed a shard of the All Spark from his brother's spark cavity.

Megatron's body was dumped into the Laurentian Abyss at its deepest point, along with the remains of the other Decepticons, where the extreme pressure and near-freezing temperatures would -- hopefully-- crush and entomb them forever. Transformers (film)

That didn't work out too well.

Operation: Firestorm (2009)[]

"Is the future of our race not worth a single human life?"
―Megatron, along with Starscream and Grindor, rounds up Optimus during their battle in the forest

It is revealed that Megatron was not searching for the AllSpark for himself, but rather for his master The Fallen. However, after the destruction of both Megatron and the cube, Fallen began to look for the Matrix of Leadership to use the Star Harvester and had the cons look for cube shards to revive Megatron.

Two years after his death, the leader of Earth began to think that the Decepticons remained on Earth to seek revenge on the Autobots for Megatron's death. However, Optimus knew better and knew that it was more than that.

At one point, shortly after stealing the last official All Spark Shard, Ravage, Long Haul, Rampage, Mixmaster, and Scrapmetal go to the ocean to locate Megatron's corpse. They succeeded in reactivating their fallen leader by the hand of Scalpel, who ordered the death of Scrapmetal so they could use his parts for Megatron. He also receives a new alternate form of a Cybertronian flying tank and the death-lock pincer.

After being revived, Megatron then left the Ocean, taking out a Ballistic Submarine in the process, and flew straight to one of Saturn's moons which had the shipwrecked Nemesis sitting on its surface, where he saw Starscream for the first time since his death. Despite Starscream's apparent loyalty to Megatron and joy at his return, Megatron was not too happy about Starscream leaving him for dead and angrily pummeled him for it, despite Starscream's rationale that he did it to help Megatron assemble the Decepticons to Earth. Afterwards, he bowed down to his master, reporting that he failed to retrieve the All Spark, and that it was destroyed. The Fallen forgave Megatron though, and revealed that the All Spark wasn't actually destroyed. As a matter of fact, it transformed and took the host of Sam Witwicky. Megatron requested permission to rip the information from the flesh of his body to avenge himself, but the Fallen told him that he will in time. The Fallen also told Megatron that only a Prime can defeat him, and there is only one left. Megatron told Fallen that Optimus protected Sam, to which the Fallen ordered Megatron to capture Sam and draw out Optimus.

Megatron Meets Michaela

Megatron returns, reborn out of the parts of the Constructicons

Later, Megatron, with Grindor and Starscream, managed to capture Sam Witwicky, Mikaela Banes, and Leo Spitz. With The Doctor, he tried to get a map to an Energon source reading out of Sam Witwicky using Scalpel and his assistants. Optimus Prime and several of the Autobots then managed to save them and escape. However, Megatron followed Optimus into the woods and battled him. Optimus proved to be an easy match for Megatron, but the Decepticon ordered Grindor and Starscream to assist him. Megatron told Optimus that there was another source of energon hidden on planet earth, and that Sam could lead the deceptions to that source. Megatron then proceeded to kick Optmus' face, causing his mouth guard to break. After being shot at by Starscream, he threw him across the field and blasted him with his cannon. Megatron then asked him if the transformers race was not worth killing a single human. Knowing that the Decepticon leader would "not stop at one", he drew out his second energon sword and attacked the three. He managed to get a few hits on Megatron and even ripped Grindor's head in half. Megatron however managed to stab Optimus Prime from behind, and after insulting his emotional state, shoot him through his chest, destroying his spark. This allowed his master to enact his plans without fear of being killed. After the battle, Megatron and Starscream attempted to get the boy, but were forced to retreat due to Autobot reinforcements. Despite successfully killing Optimus Prime, Starscream failed to capture Sam, resulting in another beat down from Megatron, this time with Starscream's own arm. Starscream scarily said that the boy could be anywhere. Megatron then said it was time for the world to know of their existence and thus the Fallen and a squad of Decepticon's arrived to Earth and revealed themselves. With Megatron's help, Fallen was able to broadcast his demands for the boy across the world.

Megatron meets with Starscream

Megatron and his Decepticon's headed to Egypt after learning of Sam's location. Starscream informed Megatron that N.E.S.T troops had brought Prime's body. Megatron realized their plan and ordered all Decepticon's to attack before Prime could be revived.

Megatron managed to kill a few N.E.S.T. soldiers during the Egypt battle. Despite the aerial bombarding of his entire Decepticon squad, Megatron makes it through, and blasted Sam Witwicky, mortally wounding him during an intense bombing raid. After Optimus Prime's revival, Fallen himself teleported into Egypt and took the Matrix from Prime's body and crushed some of his chest in. Megatron and Fallen meet on the pyramid and activated the machine. N.E.S.T's tanks attempted to stop them, but Fallen revealed his incredible power and lifted them off the ground with out touching them and dropped them. However his former follower Jetfire sacrificed himself and merged with Optimus Prime to give him to power of flight. Optimus flew up to the pyramid and grabbed Fallen. Fallen managed to teleport a few inches away from Optimus but the Autobot leader destroyed the Star Harvester which also caused Megatron to be thrown off. As Fallen and Optimus battled on the ground, Megatron tried to attack Optimus, but got half of his face blown off by his own fusion cannon, then got his right arm sliced off by Prime's energon blade, and he was finally sent flying through a wall by Prime's jet engines. Badly maimed and damaged, Megatron called out Starscream in agony. The Fallen was eventually killed by Optimus Prime, much to Megatron's shock and dismay. Starscream told Megatron that he recommended a "tactical retreat". Megatron complied and fled, but vowed that the battle between him and Prime was not over.

Note: The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen novelization and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen comic adaptation, based on early drafts of the script, has Fallen promise to Megatron that he would make him a Prime for his services, something Optimus exposes as a lie during their final battle, as one can only be born a Prime, leading Megatron to abandon his teacher.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Battle of Chicago (2011)[]

"This is my planet!!!"
―Megatron viciously turns on Sentinel Prime [src]

It was revealed that During the war on Cybertron, before the AllSpark was lost to Earth, Autobot leader Sentinel Prime made a secret deal with Megatron. Once the war left Cybertron in ruin, Megatron would arrange to bring an army to Earth with Sentinel's space bridge pillar's to enslave its population to rebuild Cybertron together. Sentinel was to meet with Megatron (who was at the time searching for the cube for the Fallen) using the spaceship known as the Ark; however, due to Megatron falling into stasis in the Arctic and Sentinel Prime crash-landing on the moon, this plan was abandoned. In between 2009 and 2012, while Megatron was repairing himself, he decided to reactivate this plan. As he knew the Matrix of Leadership could revive dead Transformers and it was in Optimus Prime's possession after the Fallen's death, Megatron simply needed Optimus to revive Sentinel so the tyrant and the turncoat Autobot could continue their plan.

Megatron, wounded and rogue, in Africa. After spending 5 years without half his parts, he is much weaker and took a new Truck form

Three years after "Operation: Firestorm" and the death of the Fallen, Megatron finally adopted an Earth form — a M915 Line-Haul. The ex-tyrant hid out in the plains of Tanzania, Africa in exile. Still visibly bearing the scars of his latest battle with Optimus Prime, he covered himself with a cloak and seemed to have lost his ability to fly. Due to his injuries, he was also too weak to fight. Megatron set up a Decepticon refugee camp with a throne all composed of junk that they were able to find, with only Starscream, Soundwave, Laserbeak, and the diminutive Igor to command. Having lost his fusion cannon in his previous battle with Optimus, Megatron now wielded a fusion shotgun. The Decepticon leader also regained a right arm, after his was sliced off by Optimus during their fight in Egypt. Megatron regularly went out to find food for the Hatchlings that lived in a collection of oil drums at the camp, occasionally scaring the local wildlife with his roaring and bellowing.

Megatron returned after a hunting trip to feed the Hatchlings that he had stored in containers. There, Megatron met with Starscream, Soundwave and Laserbeak after scaring off animals grazing. His second-in-command expressed his concern, but Megatron told him to stick it in his hard drive and to remember what he was told ("which was nothing"). Laserbeak returned after observing Shockwave's fight with Optimus Prime and told Megatron that the Autobots had discovered a fuel cell from the Ark, which had been thought lost. Megatron congratulated Soundwave for tracking the ship to the moon and for protecting its secret. Megatron then announced that the humans that were working for him had served their purpose, and ordered Laserbeak to summarily execute them. One of the executed was Jerry Wang.

Megatron shoots Abraham Lincoln out of his chair and uses it as a throne

After Sentinel Prime revealed his true colors to the Autobots and murdered Ironhide, Megatron rendezvoused with him on the National Mall and destroyed the statue of Abraham Lincoln in order to have a throne, as he watched Sentinel use the space bridge to bring a Decepticon force to Earth from Moon. He also witnessed Optimus attempt to stop him in vain. Megatron explained to Starscream that he and Sentinel made a deal to rebuild Cybertron together and were supposed to meet on Earth before they were both waylaid. However, after seeing that the Matrix was able to revive Optimus three years earlier, Megatron simply need Optimus to revive Sentinel as only a Prime or someone who earns the respect of them can use the Matrix. Megatron triumphantly witnessed the arrival of the Decepticon invasion force and proclaimed, "Here we are, fight us now".

Dotm-sentinelprime&megatron-film-chicago

Megatron met up with Sentinel in Chicago and helped to set up the space bridge. He ordered their human operative, Dylan Gould, to be gone as his purpose was served, Dylan agreed but muttered to Carly, who he took hostage, "He's such a dick". Megatron then ordered the Decepticons to attack at the request of Sentinel and the they succeeded in occupying Chicago. Megatron began to gloat about the victory with Sentinel. However, Sentinel felt that his partner was getting too chummy and attacked him, reminding Megatron that he had agreed to work with him, not for him.

Dotm-megatron-film-alley

Dylan later shouted to Megatron that the Autobots were in fact alive and in the city (after believing them to be dead after Starscream blew up the shuttle). Megatron ordered the Decepticons to defend the pillars and had all bridges raised.

Megatron watched the arrival of Cybertron from an alleyway and stayed out of the battle until Carly Spencer told him that Sentinel planed to rule alone and that Megatron would be "his bitch". Megatron, enraged that a puny fleshling would refer to him as such and attempted to kill Carly, but realizing that she was right, stopped just before he hit her. He then left to deal with Sentinel, who was battling Optimus Prime.

Megatron is killed by Optimus Prime

Just as Optimus was about to be killed by Sentinel, Megatron viciously attacked Sentinel from behind and severely injured him, declaring that Earth was "his" planet to rule. However, before Megatron could finish off the traitorous Prime, the Decepticon leader was shocked to see Cybertron collapsing after the space bridge was destroyed. Seeing his plans in ruins, Megatron tossed the weakened Sentinel aside and offered Optimus a truce on the condition that he would remain in charge of the Decepticons, slyly asking; "Who would you be without me Prime?" However, Optimus realized that Megatron's offer was not sincere, so he refused, saying; "Time to find out". Megatron prepared to shoot his shotgun, but Optimus grabbed his Energon Battle Axe and swung it at his foe's upper torso, disarming him. Optimus then cleaved off a section of his head, lodged his axe back in, and tore off his enemy's head, finally killing him. Optimus then used Megatron's shotgun to end Sentinel's life as well. Galvatron wreaks havoc on incoming traffic

Galvatron was a U.S. military model, developed by KSI. It was infected by Megatron's mind (which was known only by Brains), so despite all the efforts of people to give it the appearance just like Optimus Prime, the drone continued to recreate Megatron.

Transformers Age of Extinction.2014

Galvatron shooting at the Autobobts

After the Autobots' invasion in KSI, Galvatron was activated, along with Stinger, but it turned out that people are not able to manage them. The prototype clashed with Prime, and he learned that Galvatron is actually a reborn Megatron. Because of the intervention of Lockdown, Galvatron was withdrawn for inspection.

In KSI's facility in China, Galvatron activated himself and commandeered all of other fifty drones, made them as his new Decepticon army, and went to Hong Kong to find the Seed. But he almost did not participate in the commencement of the battle, which allowed Galvatron to survive. However, before he departed, he made a quiet vow that he and Optimus would meet again. Alliance with Quintessa[]

Megatron first appears when Barricade reports to him that Cade Yeager has found the mysterious talisman they're seeking.

Later, Megatron arrives at the base of the Transformers Reaction Force with whom he strikes a deal: the release of his fellow Decepticons (Onslaught, Mohawk, Nitro, and Dreadbot) in exchange of him killing Yeager, Izabella and the Autobots. Megatron and his team then go off to find them.

The Last Knight Megatron Facemask

Later, Megatron and his Decepticons arrive at Yeager's junkyard, and proceed to attack the Autobots. When arriving at a nearby town, Megatron manages to seize Squeeks and sadistically prepares to tear him apart, before being confronted by an angry Izabella who orders him to put Squeeks down, saying she is not afraid of him. Fortunately, Yeager causes an explosion under the Decepticons's feets, leading them to briefly lose balance and allowing Yeager, Izabella, Squeeks and the rest of the Autobots to escape. During the ensuing chaos, most of his warriors are killed except Nitro Zeus, as well as Barricade.

End game[]

During the attack on Earth by Optimus's creator, Quintessa, after Optimus breaks free of her control, Megatron and Nitro Zeus flies in and seizes the staff from Optimus.

At Stonehenge, Megatron works with Quintessa and uses the staff to transfer the energy within the dormant Unicron to bring life back to Cybertron. As British military intervenes, Megatron shoots Burton, who dies by Cogman's side. Optimus proceeds to unite the Knights with the Autobots and military. Using Lockdown's ship, they set off to stop Cybertron's collision with Earth. They raid Cybertron and battle against the Decepticons and Infernocons, Quintessa's soldiers. Optimus Prime destroyed the Infernocons and guide Viviane and Cade so they can get to the staff.

As Quintessa commences Cybertron's resurrection, the Autobots fight against Megatron. During the time, Megatron nearly kills Hound with his axe-sword before Hot-Rod uses his ability to briefly "stop the time", allowing Hound to shoot Megatron with his gun, to which he angrily fight back with his fusion-cannon.

MegatronDefeat2TLK

Bumblebee then jumps on Megatron's back but is quickly thrown off. Fortunately, as Megatron prepares to shoot him with his fusion-cannon, Optimus cut off his arm. The Decepticon leader proceeds to headbutt Prime in the head, and pin him to the ground. Angrily, Megatron reminded Optimus that they were brothers once, to which Optimus replies "Once" before kicking Megatron out of Quintessa's base, sending him flying back to Earth in the process it is unknown what happened to Megatron following Quintessa's defeat and exile to Earth. Skills[]

  • Expert Marksman: Megatron is shown to be skilled in the use of firearms.
  • Martial Arts: Megatron is shown to be skilled in martial arts.

Weapons[]

  • Fusion Cannon: Megatron's signature weapon is his fusion cannon, which is usually stored in or on his right arm, however in Dark of the Moon he doesn't have it due to Optimus cleaving it off in the previous film.
  • Claw Sword: In Revenge of the Fallen, Megatron gains a claw like housing for his fusion cannon, this housing can also be extended for use as a sword.
  • Fusion Shotgun: In Dark of the Moon, Megatron dons a fusion shotgun as a replacement for the fusion cannon due to the latter getting cleaved off by Optimus in Revenge of the Fallen. It isn't as strong as the fusion cannon, however it can be lethal if used the right way.
  • Flamethrower: In The Last Knight, Megatron is seen with a flamethrower in his fusion cannon.
  • Axe Sword: In The Last Knight, Megatron has a sword that also resembles an axe.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • According to The Movie Guide, Megatron is one of the few Transformers capable of space travel without reverting to a Protoform. This explains how he was capable of chasing the AllSpark immediately after its launch.
  • In Dark of the Moon, Megatron's alternate mode is a Mack Granite tanker truck, his first Earth disguise. This mode was chosen to put him on parallel with, and as a twisted joke on, his arch-nemesis — Optimus Prime's Peterbilt semi-truck alt mode.
  • Megatron is voiced by Fred Tatasciore in the Dark of the Moon prequel game. He also voiced the character in the other two Transformers games developed by High Moon Studios, War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron.
  • In Revenge of the Fallen, Megatron claimed, "Even in death there is no command but mine", however, his next line of dialogue was "My master...", immediately responding that he accepts the Fallen as his commander. This is an absolute paradox as you already know. Why would Megatron state he's the absolute ruler while still at the same time accepting someone else as his master?
  • In Dark of the Moon, Megatron gains somewhat of a sympathetic side, as he calls the smaller Decepticons "fragile ones", and he appears to have a soft-spot for Dylan Gould, as he was the only civilian that wasn't killed.
  • Albeit undergoing extensive repairs, Dark of the Moon is the first film in which Megatron is operational at the beginning of the movie.
  • In Dark of the Moon, Megatron is noticeably less aggressive, and undergoes a very strange mood swing when Cybertron is brought to Earth. He simply sits in an alleyway, avoiding the final battle to intently watch Cybertron teleport into Earth's atmosphere. He does not attempt to harm Carly as she crawls up next to him, only asking her in a half-menacing tone, "Have you come to surrender?" Megatron is only angered after Carly calls him Sentinel Prime's "bitch".
    • Previously, Megatron would have been at the center of any major battle and would have slain any pathetic human that came within range of his weaponry. And he certainly wouldn't have offered Optimus Prime a truce.
      • His change in mood and lack of action may have been due to the fact that he was severely weakened and his head had been damaged; not to mention the fact that Sentinel probed his skull with his hand minutes earlier.
      • It could be due to his knowledge that if by any chance he harmed a human, Optimus Prime would not spare him. Once he got wounded by Optimus and killed by Sam. He ALMOST got killed by Optimus. He did not want to die this third time. (Although, he DID die eventually, yet [[Transformers: Age of Extinction|he had returned from The Dead once again and for a time took up the taken up extra name of Galvatron and a far stronger and more powerful body than before in the process of that]])
  • Megatron has apparently become a bit more sensitive about his appearance in Dark of the Moon and uses a hooded cloak to cover his damaged face.
    • It is possible that the cloak also serves a dual purpose of protection. Since Megatron has taken up residence in the hot arid climate of Africa, it makes sense that he would cover his open wound from the sand blown in.
  • In the novelization of Dark of the Moon, Megatron is in worse state than seen in the film. A third of his face is missing, including his mouth (which is replaced by "Pure Energon"), which leaks Energon, and it takes him over a full minute to transform from vehicle to humanoid mode.
  • According to "The Quest For the All Spark" paperback's opening paragraph, "...Most revered were Optimus and Megatron. They were twin brothers of the Prime dynasty."
  • Despite his undeniable hatred of humans, Megatron is the only Decepticon in the first movie who doesn't speak Cybertronian for the majority of his dialogue. In fact, he speaks fluent English upon reviving, despite the fact that Modern English came into existence around the Sixteenth century, when he was presumably still frozen in the ice. This could suggest that he still was somehow conscious when he was studied by Sector Seven (which he also overtly states upon awakening in the IDW comic adaptation). This would explain why his first action after thawing was declaring his name - imagine being frozen for generations being referred to as "N.B.E. 1", or even worse: "Mega-man" and "Ice-man".
  • The Megatron computer generated model consisted of 2411 individual pieces, 433,949 polygons, 8924 rig nodes, and 1437 texture maps. The pieces combined gave a volume of 10,325 cubic feet. Way too small isn't it?[1]
  • There are some problems with Simmons' statement about various technologies being reverse-engineered from Megatron. Cars came about in one shape or form at about the turn of the century, and spaceflight technology was pioneered by German and Soviet scientists. (This is possibly what they want you to think.)
  • His navigation system is on his finger.
  • Two of the nicknames Megatron is referred to by are Mega-man and Ice-man. These could be references to the Mega Man videogame series.
  • It was decided that Megatron would not be renamed Galvatron in Revenge of the Fallen for the sake of the general audience, lest the change confuse them.[2] A good decision.
  • Megatron's tank mode in Revenge of the Fallen slightly resembles the Transtech Megatron's alt mode. It also resembles the Global Defence Initiative Predator tank, from the game Command and Conquer 3, especially in the layout of tracks up front. However, Predator is about the size of the Abrams and has a fully functional turret, and it's tracks actually consist of four blocks: one is the frontal half, the other trolley is the rear half, and like that on both sides.
  • Interestingly enough, This is the only other Megatron that has a mace.
  • In the first film, Megatron is killed and loses his left arm. In the sequel, he has half his face blasted off and loses his right arm. In the third movie, he is killed again and loses his head and spine, yet he returned again with another name and a far even stronger and far even more powerful body in the fourth film and took back his initial name in the fifth film, both of which he had survived in, and yet lost his arm in the fifth film again. Seems like he never got lucky on Earth
    • Since he came to Earth to get AllSpark, the AllSpark became a 'Cube of Ill-Omen' for him, even though he returned from The Dead twice and is leader of The Decepticons again from since then.
  • Megatron's death in Dark of the Moon has caused discontent amongst some fans, seeing as it made him look very weak. Having attacked and severely wounded Sentinel Prime, who had just beaten Optimus to near death (removing one of his arms in the process), one would have believed that Megatron stood a decent chance against Optimus. Not so. Megatron was quickly decapitated (or de-spined) by Optimus in less than 10 seconds with only one arm, resulting in the shortest fight in the entire movie trilogy. Many Megatron fans have felt he deserved a bigger battle and much more epic death, considering his role throughout the series.
    • However, he did take Sentinel by surprise and was probably still weakened from the penultimate Revenge of the Fallen battle and didn't expect Optimus to attack him. Still...
      • To be fair, Optimus was rather pissed at that moment.
        • Yet again, Optimus was beaten to a similar state during the forest battle in Revenge of the Fallen and still managed to temporarily overwhelm Megatron, Starscream and Grindor and according to the movie universe, his power level is at a level 5 while Optimus has a power level of 10.
          • If one looks closely enough, in the scene where Sentinel rams Megatron's head into a wall, one can see Sentinel remove something from Megatron's wound. This could have possibly caused extra damage; at least explaining Megatron's odd mood swings
  • Probably as a result of losing his fusion cannon arm in Revenge of the Fallen, he now carries a Gears of War Gnasher Shotgun or Lupara-esque rifle. It still has the power of his previous fusion cannon — at least sound for that matter. It does severely incapacitate Sentinel Prime, creating large wounds in his chest.
  • According to some of Josh Nizzi's concept art, Megatron's vehicle mode from the first film may not be an "Alien fighter of unknown origin". It may well be based on a Decepticon fighter craft, or vice versa.
  • In Dark of the Moon, Megatron finally gets a real hand rather than the weird uneven claw he had before. Only one though.
    • This is most likely due to having to replace his arm that was lost in ROTF with whatever was available rather than a true replacement.
  • Until Lockdown, Megatron was the only main antagonist in the movie series that wasn't a Prime, since which has he become one of two upon his second resurrection.
  • In an earlier draft of Dark of the Moon script, Megatron is sincere when he offers Optimus Prime a truce at the end. Optimus accepts, and Megatron and the remaining Decepticons leave Earth to rebuild Cybertron (which wasn't destroyed). This ending is used for the novelization and the comic adaptation.
  • It can be noted that in the first two film's, Megatron fought in any and almost every battle, but in Dark of the Moon, Megatron fought only once — even though it wasn't even a fight.
