The name or term Insecticon refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Insecticon (disambiguation).

Insecticons are a specific group of Decepticons that are large, brutish, and extremely dangerous. Some were stationed as sentries on Cybertron following the Great War, with the intention of keeping a look out for the Autobots should they ever return. They can speak, though many simply utter feral insect noises.

"There is no greater ferocity than an Insecticon hive."
―Hardshell boasts to Megatron.

Prime cartoon[]

Voice Actors: Steve Blum, James Horan, Kevin Michael Richardson

An Insecticon stationed near Kaon was activated upon the arrival of Arcee and her human companion, and began tracking them into the city. Orion Pax, Part 2

It then attacked when they uncovered the entrance to the Vector Sigma Chamber. Arcee engaged it, but the much larger bot was able to fend off her blows easily, and eventually knocked her out by slamming her into a wall with the horn of its beast mode. The Insecticon then tore its way through the entrance to Vector Sigma and began tracking Jack. It found him at the database, and was preparing to attack when it noticed the Scraplets feeding on the machine. While the Insecticon was frozen in fear, Jack turned the Scraplets on it, and they began feeding upon it, causing its limbs to detach and fall into the pit below. Orion Pax, Part 3

One Insecticon was later found on Earth by Starscream while searching for Energon. He attempted to put it under his control, but was attacked by it instead. After learning that it was Airachnid who controlled it, she had it continue to attack him, but Starscream was able to escape.

Airachnid later challenged Megatron to a duel. However, instead of dueling him herself, she had the Insecticon fight him. It was beating him at first, but Megatron, originally being an expert gladiator from the pits of Kaon, was able to gain the upper hand and eventually decapitate it.

After being injured by Starscream and escaping, Airachnid discovered that the Insecticon was one of hundreds, if not thousands, in a nest full of them. Crossfire

After tracking down the Nemesis, Airachnid awakened several of the Insecticons she had found and sent them to destroy Megatron. When Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Arcee arrived at the scene, Airachnid had the Insecticon rear unit of her "armada" attack the Autobots. While Optimus Prime and Bumblebee fought them, Arcee went off and chased after Airachnid.

While chasing her, two Insecticons followed Arcee to destroy her. However, one noticed that it was about to fly into a tree and attempted to stop, causing the other to fly into it. One of the two then landed near Airachnid, who flew off the ledge she stood upon and onto the ground below.

The mass of Insecticons remaining flew to the location of the Nemesis, where they were forced into fighting Megatron's Vehicons. Later, Megatron himself arrived on the ship's exterior after destroying several of Starscream's clones, and began to fight them himself. However, due to Airachnid entering stasis by being trapped in an Insecticon pod, they no longer obeyed her, and willingly fell under the command of Megatron. Since then, the generic Insecticons became the alternate foot soldiers of the Decepticons. Armada

Powers and abilities[]

In their Prime depiction, Insecticons are some of the most naturally dangerous Cybertronians; posessing immense strength, endurance, speed and svage fighting desire. One Insecticon is enough to defeat several Autobots and could even rival Megatron in a fight (albeit with an advantage). They also take a lot of bulk, durable enough to withstand sveral shots. Even the most experienced Autobots like Arcee and Wheeljack can only outmanoeuvre them, however, not defeat them. Therefore they bear slight arrogance and overconfidence compared to smaller Cybertronians. With the absence of Airachnid, Insecticons seems to support whatever infantry is most powerful, that being Megatron. This also shows that they do fear him, especially since he has killed multiple of them before. It should be notated that their danger levels do vary in the show, as eventually they too become cannon-fodder for the Autobots, like the weaker Vehicons.

Physical description[]

Robot mode:[]

The Insecticons are gigantic Cybertronians larger than both Optimus and Megatron; standing at 11 meters in crouched pose and 11.5, when standing straight from toe to head. Their bodies are massive with big, digitrade (bent ankles) feet and large arms with four long claws. Their toes ar three long claws; to big on the front and one behind the heel. Their torso is far more massive than their legs, with a large, outwards-pointing back. The head are more animalistic with two mandibales around the cheeks and a big, v-shaped, red visor as optics. They make horrid schreeches and hums similair to elephants. On their chest, they posess two, long, insect-like claws which they use in combat. They can transform the top plates of theri wrist into a small, but powerful cannon. Insecticons usually crawls also, able to walk across walls and ceilings.

"Beetle" mode[]

Their alternate mode resembels a large beetle (Hercules-beetle) with six insect legs and one long horn at the top of the head, which can transform into a long cannon. The head has more eyes and two jabber mandibles. Beneath their back-plates they posess foru insect wings, which allows them to fly. it should be notated that the Insecticons seemingly stop speaking when transformed.

Games[]

Fall of Cybertron video game[]

Most Insecticons bear an insect-like form, however, there are a select few of their number that possess both the insect form as well as a robot form. Shockwave believes that these three are the original Insecticons.

Insecticons can ingest ninety-five percent of all known matter. Though they cannot use the ingested material as sustenance, they can convert it into other types of material in order to create structures. They communicate through a specific ultrasonic frequency, which Shockwave uses to control most of them. The only exceptions to this are the three originals. They are also able to clone themselves, though all subsequent generations are inferior to the originals.

Insecticons also come in various shape and sizes. They also possess various classes, with some being worker drones and other possessing combat skills for defense. Hardshell, Kickback, and Sharpshot have high level intelligence but it is unknown if the lesser species are, though some have been heard to speak. After Shockwave began experimenting on them it is likely that most, if not all of them, have combat capability.

These Insecticons are split into several different classes. The most numerous come in hordes, named Swarmers in Escalation. The more annoying ones that 'bots like Grimlock cannot hit can fly, and are called Spitters. They shoot rust. The last and more dangerous are called Bruisers. These were experimented on by Shockwave, and use melee attacks as well as a charge attack that can be avoided by dodging from side to side. They have a large amount of health. The only way to easily defeat one is to execute them in T-Rex mode.

Notes[]

  • So far, the Insecticons in the cartoon have only been seen to have Hercules Beetle alternate modes.
  • They are capable of firing lasers from their horns in beast mode.
  • In their humanoid form, they bear a resemblance albeit a small one to the Predacon Tarantulas from Beast Wars.
  • Aside from Optimus and Predaking, the Insecticons are the only other Cybetronians shown to give Megatron a run for his money.
  • Until Season 3, Insecticons were the largest Cybertronians introduced in Transformers Prime.
  • They are the second animal type Transformer to be introduced into the Prime series. The first being the Scraplet.
  • In Fall of Cybertron, the incapability of the lesser Insecticons to transform may be due to the fact that they are clones of the originals. Shockwave states that the clones are inferior to previous generations.
