The name or term Megatron refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Megatron (disambiguation).

Megatron, the former Lord High Protector and co-ruler of Cybertron, is vicious and extremely powerful. He is single-minded in his goals, straight forward and brutally direct in his attempts to seize those goals. He is all "blunt force" in contrast to Starscream's penchant for deceit and trickery. On the downside, Megatron tends to become so obsessed with the object of his desires that he can ignore "secondary" matters, glaring flaws in his plans, and even crippling injuries in pursuit of the coveted item. Trying to talk Megatron out of blindly going for his goals is useless. He will risk his world, his troops, and even his own spark to achieve his goals. These things do not matter to Megatron. Even the destruction of the Autobots is a secondary concern. In Megatron's cerebral processor, all that matters is the All Spark.

While some merely dislikes or disregards organics (since they have a tendency to get in their way), Megatron feels a violent hatred towards them and seems to view them as only slightly above a virus, with him as the cure. This may be due to having spent decades as their prisoner, but his hatred is still very extreme. If there was no All Spark, it is not that big a stretch to think he'd have come here anyway, just to cleanse one more planet of its infection.

Megatron is also a fictional character of the Transformers Live-action film series. He served as the main antagonist in Transformers and the secondary antagonist in both Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon. As Galvatron, he serves as the secondary antagonist in Age of Extinction.

Megatron once ruled Cybertron side-by-side with Optimus Prime. For generations, the two ruled in peace. Megatron was firm, but Prime was fair, creating a nice, even balance. Sadly, he got a jonesing for the All Spark and the war started. Megatron formed an army of separatists, the Decepticons, while Prime formed his own army, the Autobots. Megatron's forces, while less noble, were more ferocious warriors. Prime eventually made the decision to launch the All Spark into deep space. When Bumblebee stalled Megatron long enough for it to be launched into space, he tore off Bumblebee's arm and crushed his voice box, then took off into space after the All Spark. UK Transformers Comic

The All Spark had not been blindly launched into space, however - its trajectory was leading it directly towards the Alkaris Anomaly, a wormhole that could potentially transport the cube to any one of an infinite number of locations in the universe. Megatron was fully capable of catching up to the cube before it would enter the wormhole, but as he passed Cybertron's moon, he found himself ensnared by an Autobot tractor beam of remarkable strength that pulled him down to the moon's surface. Enraged by the ignominy of it all, Megatron turned his weapons on the Autobots responsible, but quickly calmed down enough to realize that this was only playing into their hands, and instead ordered Brawl to take his place in the battle. Megatron swooped back into space, hot on the All Spark's heels, but was unable to stop the cube from falling through the anomaly. Determined to have the All Spark's power, Megatron chose to enter the wormhole himself, only to be spat out in some far-off star system, with no trace of the All Spark. Prelude: Megatron

After conquering an unknown chunk of Earth (including the entire United States of America) with Dropkick as his second-in-command, he used the All Spark's power to start turning Earth from an organic world into a new Cybertron. Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday

When Megatron came online, it was obvious that some time had passed. Not only was he encased in a primitive transport, but there were lifeforms fighting over him. Before Megatron could properly exterminate them, another crude transport crashed into his, causing a massive (but not spark-threatening) explosion. Megatron would have been pleased to know that the fire only added to his terrifying visage in the eyes of the maggots. Regaining his composure, Megatron noticed Phillip Nolan standing near him. As Megatron reached out to grab it, Thomas Kinnear, this one terminally damaged, began firing crude projectiles which his body armor easily deflected. Waiting until after the creature had expended its ammunition, Megatron grabbed it in his hand, only to discover that it had packed itself with explosives, which threw Megatron to the ground when they detonated. Then, the aforementioned first insect began spraying liquid nitrogen on Megatron, causing him to go back into stasis. Unable to escape, Megatron screamed a dark vengeance upon his captors. Megatron frozen

Megatron eventually succeeded in tracking the All Spark to Earth, where he rather embarrassingly crash-landed in the Arctic Circle and was frozen solid for thousands of years. In 1897, some 100 Earth-years before the arrival of the other Transformers, he was discovered by an explorer named Archibald Amundsen Witwicky by an accident. Captain Witwicky accidentally activated Megatron's navigation system and caused the coordinates of the All Spark to be etched onto the explorer's glasses. Megatron remained imprisoned in the Arctic, until the 1930s, when he was dug out by the United States government and moved to a secret Sector Seven stronghold inside Hoover Dam. In the years that followed, many modern devices (by Earth standards) were supposedly reverse-engineered from his frozen body.

In the present day, having searched the galaxy for the All Spark and being drawn to Earth, the remaining Decepticons learned of Witwicky's glasses. Through the Internet, they determined the location of both Megatron and the All Spark inside Hoover Dam. Frenzy infiltrated the dam and shut down the power systems, while Starscream attacked the external powerlines, resulting in Megatron's thawing out. Once again online, the leader of the Decepticons informed the worthless insects of his true name, shouting "I am Megatron!" (to clear up all that N.B.E.-01/Ice Man nonsense), randomly killed a few of them while destroying his former prison with his mace, then transformed and flew off after the All Spark again. He met up with Starscream on the outside, and, never one for pleasantries, demanded to know where the Cube was. Upon learning that the humans had moved the All Spark, Megatron berated Starscream for yet another failure and ordered him to "get" the humans.

Movie Megatron breakout

Megatron unfreezes and goes on a short rampage

After Starscream and Devastator's opening attacks in Mission City, Megatron arrived. The Autobots were so panicked by the sight of their long lost nemesis that Jazz called for a temporary retreat, bravely and somewhat recklessly facing Megatron alone despite a human's cries for him to fall back. When the smaller Autobot shot at him, angering him, Megatron blasted him backwards, injuring him. Deciding to finish Jazz off with his bare hands, Megatron tossed him into the air before crushing him on top of a tower with his clawed talons. Jazz vainly fought on, asking if Megatron wanted a "piece" of him, but doing little damage to Megatron. The Decepticon leader killed the Autobot by tearing him in half, callously declaring that he wanted "two".

Movie Megatron jetmode cityfight

Megatrons Cybertronian Jet form

As the human boy ran off with the All Spark, Megatron ordered the Decepticons to attack. Brawl attacked the "armed insects", while Starscream and Blackout fought Ironhide and Ratchet for the All Spark. At that moment, Optimus Prime dramatically appeared and challenged Megatron. Thousands of years in the ice, however, had done nothing to lessen Megatron's hatred for his brother. Barely managing to growl out Prime's name, he threw away Jazz's remains, transformed and flew at Prime at full speed. The Autobot leader leapt and grabbed a hold of Megatron, who slammed him into a building before flying right through an office block. Both leaders landed in the middle of an intersection, but Megatron was the first to recover and leaped upon his brother, snarling that the humans were undeserving of life. Optimus Prime replied that they had the right to choose for themselves. Hearing this, the snarling Megatron tossed Optimus aside.

Megatrons cannon

Megatron declared that if Prime wished to defend them, he should "join them in extinction", forming his fusion cannon. Before he could fire, the Autobot leader drew his ion blaster and fired, hitting Megatron. The Decepticon leader shrugged off this attack, spun around from the momentum and fired his cannon, throwing Optimus Prime into the side of a building.

Megatron pursued the young human who had removed the All Spark from the Hoover Dam, destroying everything that stood in his way. The boy ran to a dilapidated building that was the designated coordinates for a human military evacuation team, and Megatron smashed his way through, yelling that he could smell the human maggot. Starscream destroyed the helicopter intended to take the All Spark, and Megatron burst through the floor, inquiring if it was courage or fear that compelled him. Finally cornering him on a ledge, Megatron offered that if the human gave him the All Spark, the boy might live as his pet. The Decepticon leader relished the human's defiant refusal and destroyed the ledge the human was standing upon, sending the boy tumbling to the ground.

Movie Megatron maceattack

Unfortunately, the human was caught by Optimus Prime, who then tried to escape down the side of the building before Megatron tackled him and sent all three slamming into the pavement. As a nearby human bystander attempted to crawl away, the Decepticon expressed his disgust at the insect's proximity and flicked it away. Protecting the young boy, Prime declared that their war would end here and it was now just between the two brothers. Though lusting for the All Spark, Megatron decided to indulge his brother's obvious death wish, declaring that only he was in this fight. Despite Optimus Prime's best efforts, Megatron was relentless, matching the Autobot leader with blow after devastating blow until he collapsed. Adding insult to injury, Megatron informed Prime that his defense of the "weak" was the real reason he lost.

Megatron is killed by the All Spark

The Decepticon leader turned his attention back to the human boy, but was suddenly attacked by the human fighter jets and Captain Lennox's ground soldiers firing sabot rounds. Optimus took this chance, striking Megatron and knocking him down. His armor damaged, Megatron ignored the punishment and focused on the human boy, growling that he would kill the boy and that the All Spark was his. As Optimus Prime ordered the boy to place the All Spark into his chest, Sam instead pushed it into the now-exposed spark in Megatron's chest, overloading him with energy and extinguishing the Decepticon's life force. As Optimus Prime stood over Megatron's lifeless shell, watching the light flicker out of his brother's optics, he remarked somberly, yet remorsefully, that Megatron had left him no choice, and removed a shard of the All Spark from his brother's spark cavity.

Megatron's body was dumped into the Laurentian Abyss at its deepest point, along with the remains of the other Decepticons, where the extreme pressure and near-freezing temperatures would -- hopefully-- crush and entomb them forever. Transformers (film)

That didn't work out too well.

Revenge of the Fallen film

Megatron, along with Starscream and Grindor, rounds up Optimus during their battle in the forest

—Is the future of our race not worth a single human life?

It is revealed that Megatron was not searching for the AllSpark for himself, but rather for his master The Fallen. However, after the destruction of both Megatron and the cube, Fallen began to look for the Matrix of Leadership to use the Star Harvester and had the cons look for cube shards to revive Megatron.

Two years after his death, the leader of Earth began to think that the Decepticons remained on Earth to seek revenge on the Autobots for Megatron's death. However, Optimus knew better and knew that it was more than that.

At one point, shortly after stealing the last official All Spark Shard, Ravage, Long Haul, Rampage, Mixmaster, and Scrapmetal go to the ocean to locate Megatron's corpse. They succeeded in reactivating their fallen leader by the hand of Scalpel, who ordered the death of Scrapmetal so they could use his parts for Megatron. He also receives a new alternate form of a Cybertronian flying tank and the death-lock pincer.

After being revived, Megatron then left the Ocean, taking out a Ballistic Submarine in the process, and flew straight to one of Saturn's moons which had the shipwrecked Nemesis sitting on its surface, where he saw Starscream for the first time since his death. Despite Starscream's apparent loyalty to Megatron and joy at his return, Megatron was not too happy about Starscream leaving him for dead and angrily pummeled him for it, despite Starscream's rationale that he did it to help Megatron assemble the Decepticons to Earth. Afterwards, he bowed down to his master, reporting that he failed to retrieve the All Spark, and that it was destroyed. The Fallen forgave Megatron though, and revealed that the All Spark wasn't actually destroyed. As a matter of fact, it transformed and took the host of Sam Witwicky. Megatron requested permission to rip the information from the flesh of his body to avenge himself, but the Fallen told him that he will in time. The Fallen also told Megatron that only a Prime can defeat him, and there is only one left. Megatron told Fallen that Optimus protected Sam, to which the Fallen ordered Megatron to capture Sam and draw out Optimus.

Megatron returns, reborn out of the parts of the Constructicons

Later, Megatron, with Grindor and Starscream, managed to capture Sam Witwicky, Mikaela Banes, and Leo Spitz. With The Doctor, he tried to get a map to an Energon source reading out of Sam Witwicky using Scalpel and his assistants. Optimus Prime and several of the Autobots then managed to save them and escape. However, Megatron followed Optimus into the woods and battled him. Optimus proved to be an easy match for for Megatron, but the Decepticon ordered Grindor and Starscream to assist him. Megatron told Optimus that there was another source of energon hidden on planet earth, and that Sam could lead the deceptions to that source. Megatron then proceeded to kick Optmus' face, causing his mouth guard to break. After being shot at by Starscream, he threw him across the field and blasted him with his cannon. Megatron then asked him if the transformers race was not worth killing a single human. Knowing that the Decepticon leader would "not stop at one", he drew out his second energon sword and attacked the three. He managed to get a few hits on Megatron and even ripped Grindor's head in half. Megatron however managed to stab Optimus Prime from behind, and after insulting his emotional state, shoot him through his chest, destroying his spark. This allowed his master to enact his plans without fear of being killed. After the battle, Megatron and Starscream attempted to get the boy, but were forced to retreat due to Autobot reinforcements. Despite successfully killing Optimus Prime, Starscream failed to capture Sam, resulting in another beat down from Megatron, this time with Starscream's own arm. Starscream scarily said that the boy could be anywhere. Megatron then said it was time for the world to know of their existence and thus the Fallen and a squad of Decepticon's arrived to Earth and revealed themselves. With Megatron's help, Fallen was able to broadcast his demands for the boy across the world.

Megatron meets with Starscream

Megatron and his Decepticon's headed to Egypt after learning of Sam's location. Starscream informed Megatron that N.E.S.T troops had brought Prime's body. Megatron realized their plan and ordered all Decepticon's to attack before Prime could be revived.

Megatron managed to kill a few N.E.S.T. soldiers during the Egypt battle. Despite the aerial bombarding of his entire Decepticon squad, Megatron makes it through, and blasted Sam Witwicky, mortally wounding him during an intense bombing raid. After Optimus Prime's revival, Fallen himself teleported into Egypt and took the Matrix from Prime's body and crushed some of his chest in. Megatron and Fallen meet on the pyramid and activated the machine. N.E.S.T's tanks attempted to stop them, but Fallen revealed his incredible power and lifted them off the ground with out touching them and dropped them. However his former follower Jetfire sacrificed himself and merged with Optimus Prime to give him to power of flight. Optimus flew up to the pyramid and grabbed Fallen. Fallen managed to teleport a few inches away from Optimus but the Autobot leader destroyed the Star Harvester which also caused Megatron to be thrown off. As Fallen and Optimus battled on the ground, Megatron tried to attack Optimus, but got half of his face blown off by his own fusion cannon, then got his right arm sliced off by Prime's energon blade, and he was finally sent flying through a wall by Prime's jet engines. Badly maimed and damaged, Megatron called out Starscream in agony. The Fallen was eventually killed by Optimus Prime, much to Megatron's shock and dismay. Starscream told Megatron that he recommended a "tactical retreat". Megatron complied and fled, but vowed that the battle between him and Prime was not over.

Megatron is defeated, and he escapes with Starscream

Note: The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen novelization and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen comic adaptation, based on early drafts of the script, has Fallen promise to Megatron that he would make him a Prime for his services, something Optimus exposes as a lie during their final battle, as one can only be born a Prime, leading Megatron to abandon his teacher.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Dark of the Moon film

Voice actor: Hugo Weaving (English), Koutarou Nakamura (Japanese)
Dark of the Moon

—This is my planet!!!, Megatron viciously turns on Sentinel Prime

It was revealed that During the war on Cybertron, before the AllSpark was lost to Earth, Autobot leader Sentinel Prime made a secret deal with Megatron. Once the war left Cybertron in ruin, Megatron would arrange to bring an army to Earth with Sentinel's space bridge pillar's to enslave its population to rebuild Cybertron together. Sentinel was to meet with Megatron (who was at the time searching for the cube for the Fallen) using the spaceship known as the Ark; however, due to Megatron falling into stasis in the Arctic and Sentinel Prime crash-landing on the moon, this plan was abandoned. In between 2009 and 2012, while Megatron was repairing himself, he decided to reactivate this plan. As he knew the Matrix of Leadership could revive dead Transformers and it was in Optimus Prime's possession after the Fallen's death, Megatron simply needed Optimus to revive Sentinel so the tyrant and the turncoat Autobot could continue their plan.

Megatron, wounded and rogue, in Africa. After spending 5 years without half his parts, he is much weaker and took a new Truck form

Three years after "Operation: Firestorm" and the death of the Fallen, Megatron finally adopted an Earth form — a M915 Line-Haul. The ex-tyrant hid out in the plains of Tanzania, Africa in exile. Still visibly bearing the scars of his latest battle with Optimus Prime, he covered himself with a cloak and seemed to have lost his ability to fly. Due to his injuries, he was also too weak to fight. Megatron set up a Decepticon refugee camp with a throne all composed of junk that they were able to find, with only Starscream, Soundwave, Laserbeak, and the diminutive Igor to command. Having lost his fusion cannon in his previous battle with Optimus, Megatron now wielded a fusion shotgun. The Decepticon leader also regained a right arm, after his was sliced off by Optimus during their fight in Egypt. Megatron regularly went out to find food for the Hatchlings that lived in a collection of oil drums at the camp, occasionally scaring the local wildlife with his roaring and bellowing.

Megatrons' small camp in Africa

Megatron returned after a hunting trip to feed the Hatchlings that he had stored in containers. There, Megatron met with Starscream, Soundwave and Laserbeak after scaring off animals grazing. His second-in-command expressed his concern, but Megatron told him to stick it in his hard drive and to remember what he was told ("which was nothing"). Laserbeak returned after observing Shockwave's fight with Optimus Prime and told Megatron that the Autobots had discovered a fuel cell from the Ark, which had been thought lost. Megatron congratulated Soundwave for tracking the ship to the moon and for protecting its secret. Megatron then announced that the humans that were working for him had served their purpose, and ordered Laserbeak to summarily execute them. One of the executed was Jerry Wang.

Megatron shoots Abraham Lincoln out of his chair and uses it as a throne

After Sentinel Prime revealed his true colors to the Autobots and murdered Ironhide, Megatron rendezvoused with him on the National Mall and destroyed the statue of Abraham Lincoln in order to have a throne, as he watched Sentinel use the space bridge to bring a Decepticon force to Earth from Moon. He also witnessed Optimus attempt to stop him in vain. Megatron explained to Starscream that he and Sentinel made a deal to rebuild Cybertron together and were supposed to meet on Earth before they were both waylaid. However, after seeing that the Matrix was able to revive Optimus three years earlier, Megatron simply need Optimus to revive Sentinel as only a Prime or someone who earns the respect of them can use the Matrix. Megatron triumphantly witnessed the arrival of the Decepticon invasion force and proclaimed, "Here we are, fight us now".

Megatron met up with Sentinel in Chicago and helped to set up the space bridge. He ordered their human operative, Dylan Gould, to be gone as his purpose was served, Dylan agreed but muttered to Carly, who he took hostage, "He's such a dick". Megatron then ordered the Decepticons to attack at the request of Sentinel and the they succeeded in occupying Chicago. Megatron began to gloat about the victory with Sentinel. However, Sentinel felt that his partner was getting too chummy and attacked him, reminding Megatron that he had agreed to work with him, not for him.

Dylan later shouted to Megatron that the Autobots were in fact alive and in the city (after believing them to be dead after Starscream blew up the shuttle). Megatron ordered the Decepticons to defend the pillars and had all bridges raised.

Megatron watched the arrival of Cybertron from an alleyway and stayed out of the battle until Carly Spencer told him that Sentinel planed to rule alone and that Megatron would be "his bitch". Megatron, enraged that a puny fleshling would refer to him as such and attempted to kill Carly, but realizing that she was right, stopped just before he hit her. He then left to deal with Sentinel, who was battling Optimus Prime.

Megatron is killed by Optimus Prime

Just as Optimus was about to be killed by Sentinel, Megatron viciously attacked Sentinel from behind and severely injured him, declaring that Earth was "his" planet to rule. However, before Megatron could finish off the traitorous Prime, the Decepticon leader was shocked to see Cybertron collapsing after the space bridge was destroyed. Seeing his plans in ruins, Megatron tossed the weakened Sentinel aside and offered Optimus a truce on the condition that he would remain in charge of the Decepticons, slyly asking; "Who would you be without me Prime?" However, Optimus realized that Megatron's offer was not sincere, so he refused, saying; "Time to find out". Megatron prepared to shoot his shotgun, but Optimus grabbed his Energon Battle Axe and swung it at his foe's upper torso, disarming him. Optimus then cleaved off a section of his head, lodged his axe back in, and tore off his enemy's head, finally killing him. Optimus then used Megatron's shotgun to end Sentinel's life as well.

Note: In an earlier draft of the movie's script, it was made clear that Megatron was sincere when he offers Optimus Prime a truce at the end. Optimus accepts, and Megatron and the remaining Decepticons leave Earth to rebuild Cybertron (which wasn't destroyed). This ending is used for the novelization and the comic adaptation.

Dark of the Moon

Age of Extinction film

Megatron was not dead in the battle of Chicago, he was just not functioning. He wanted the Seed. Knowing that KSI, Cemetery Wind and Lockdown has the Seed, he decided to bide his time. Soon, he influences KSI to build a new body and he was called "Galvatron". Joshua Joyce wanted it to look like Optimus Prime, but it looked more terrifying. KSI then deployed Galvatron and Stinger to go after the Autobots. After shooting missles at Optimus, the two robots have a brief fight. Optimus deploys his Energon sword and insults Galvatron by saying: "you have no soul!" Galvatron then destroys Optimus' sword and replies: "that is why I have no fear!". It is then that Optimus sensed that Galvatron was Megatron. Brains knew about this earlier, but whenever he spoke out (because he was captured by KSI), he would be shocked. Galvatron is moved to Beijing, China after the incident. However, he becomes active again and takes command of KSI's other 50 man-made Transformer drones. He orders all of them to find the Seed for him, knowing it was in the area. After Optimus, Crosshairs,Drift, and the Dinobots arrive to defeat KSI's drones, Galvatron, yells in anger and retreats. After Optimus kills the rest of KSI's drones, Galvatron accepts his new identity and tells Optimus that they will meet again, for he was reborn.

Autobot campaign

After arriving at Hoover Dam, Bumblebee saw Megatron and the All Spark being held in the same room, which was guarded by lasers. After bringing down the lasers, Bumblebee managed to shrink the All Spark, while under fire by Megatron. Following the Autobots to Mission City, Megatron ignominiously "flicked" Bumblebee away, then tried to grab the All Spark from Sam. Optimus Prime arrived and the two fought in the Mission City park. After Prime believed that he had destroyed Megatron, Sam handed the All Spark to Prime, but Megatron exploded back to life, jumped into the air with his flail, making one last attempt at killing Prime. However, Optimus caught the flail in its path and yanked Megatron towards him, ramming the All Spark into his chest and killing him.

Decepticon campaign

Megatron in Transformers: The Game

After learning Megatron's location, Blackout and Starscream sabotaged the dam's power, allowing Megatron to thaw out and awaken. After Megatron emerged, Starscream and Blackout bowed before their master, who declared that they had much to do. After the Decepticons dispatched the Autobots, Megatron, hoping to draw Prime out, went on a rampage in Mission City, declaring that the city would burn beneath his feet (this means toastie toes, but he's willing to make that sacrifice). Megatron and Prime played a game of cat and mouse, with Megatron tracking Prime and Sam, until Megatron finally destroyed Prime, then safely merged the All Spark with his spark, becoming even more powerful in the process. After decimating Earth, Megatron took the Lincoln Memorial as his throne, then ordered Starscream, Brawl, and Barricade to finish the planet, before going on to conquer the galaxy.

Transformers: Autobots (DS)

Having landed on Earth some thousands of years ago, Megatron is thought to be frozen somewhere in the Arctic. As the Autobots look for clues as to his location, they eventually arrive in the frozen desert long enough to realize the humans have found him, as well as the AllSpark (sic). Once they hack into the communications array at the base, they find documentation leading to the Hoover Dam, where the Autobots and Decepticons race. Some wishing to free him, most hoping to destroy him, the Transformers fight over the base until the Decepticon leader is finally freed. Once out of cryo-storage, Megatron proceeds to steal the AllSpark from the Autobots and begin a destructive rampage through Tranquility, until he is finally defeated by Optimus Prime and Create-A-Bot.

Transformers: Decepticons (DS)

With Megatron frozen in the Hoover Dam, the Decepticons fight to free their leader. However, as is quickly made apparent, Starscream and his young protege, a Create-A-Bot, seek to eliminate their leader. This quickly changes, as Create-A-Bot is convinced by Barricade to free their commander, as Starscream is a back-stabbing bureaucrat while Megatron is a truly zealous leader. Even though both would kill you in an instant, Megatron would at least do it to your face so you could see it coming.

Once free, Megatron quickly takes the time to wipe out Jazz, who has been left at the bridge to help get rid of Megatron. After a fairly short battle, Megatron smashes Jazz into the dirt, leaving him to die. Back in Tranquility, he chases after Starscream, only to be blocked by Optimus Prime. Once the sibling rivalry is finished, Prime is left in pieces in the streets of Tranquility.

Arriving in the Casino Strip, Megatron finds Create-A-Bot damaged and Starscream flying away. Giving chase, he attacks his traitorous second-in-command, nearly destroying him despite his awesome All Spark driven powers. Starscream uses his last breath to insult Megatron before being killed by the tyrant. Returning to Create-A-Bot's side, Megatron takes a moment to call him a weakling and a failure, completely forgetting about the fact that Create-A-Bot saved him, led him to Starscream, destroyed the Autobots, and served him more loyally than most of his other followers. Taking a moment to let this sink in, Megatron went on to tell him that the weak are made to serve the strong, then ripped the young Decepticon apart and ate his Spark. Megatron then took off into the sky with intentions unknown.

The Decepticons were all honored to have him back, except of course, for Starscream, who openly vowed to re-take his position as Decepticon leader. Megatron dismissed Starscream's defiance, and consulted the Fallen, who ordered him to recover the Matrix of Leadership. Megatron then informed the ignorant rookie what the Matrix was and why it was necessary to recover.

Megatron later entered Area 51 to get some target practice on NEST. Later, he deployed to a Decepticon communications base in Arabia to protect it from being captured by the Autobots. Megatron later went to Cairo, Egypt, for the final battle. The player's character recovers the Matrix of Leadership, and then killed Optimus Prime. After Create-a-bot delivered the news of Prime's death, the Fallen berated Megatron for his failure to kill Optimus, and replaced him with the rookie as his apprentice. Megatron was helpless to intervene, and Starscream laughingly seized leadership of the Decepticons.

Dark of the Moon: The Game

Voice actor: Fred Tatasciore

Megatron is the player in Chapter 6. He has to evacuate his base because Autobots are invading it. He escapes and sets Shockwave free, as well as confronting Optimus Prime.

  • According to The Movie Guide, Megatron is one of the few Transformers capable of space travel without reverting to a Protoform. This explains how he was capable of chasing the AllSpark immediately after its launch.
  • If you collect all of the Decepticon symbols in the Decepticon campaign in Transformers: The Game, the Generation 1 Megatron's character model will be unlocked.
  • In Dark of the Moon, Megatron's alternate mode is a Mack Granite tanker truck, his first Earth disguise. This mode was chosen to put him on parallel with, and as a twisted joke on, his arch-nemesis — Optimus Prime's Peterbilt semi-truck alt mode.

Megatron drains the spark out of an Autobot.

    • When the Dark of the Moon game was announced, it was said that Nemesis Prime would be in multiplayer. This was just a cover up for Megatron's DOTM character model.
  • In Revenge of the Fallen, Megatron claimed, "Even in death there is no command but mine", however, his next line of dialogue was "My master...", immediately responding that he accepts the Fallen as his commander. This is an absolute paradox as you already know. Why would Megatron state he's the absolute ruler while still at the same time accepting someone else as his master?
  • Albeit undergoing extensive repairs, Dark of the Moon is the first film in which Megatron is operational at the beginning of the movie.
  • In Dark of the Moon, Megatron is noticeably less aggressive, and undergoes a very strange mood swing when Cybertron is brought to Earth. He simply sits in an alleyway, avoiding the final battle to intently watch Cybertron teleport into Earth's atmosphere. He does not attempt to harm Carly as she crawls up next to him, only asking her in a half-menacing tone, "Have you come to surrender?" Megatron is only angered after Carly calls him Sentinel Prime's "bitch".
    • Previously, Megatron would have been at the center of any major battle and would have slain any pathetic human that came within range of his weaponry. And he certainly wouldn't have offered Optimus Prime a truce.
      • His change in mood and lack of action may have been due to the fact that he was severely weakened and his head had been damaged; not to mention the fact that Sentinel probed his skull with his hand minutes earlier.
      • It could be due to his knowledge that if by any chance he harmed a human, Optimus Prime would not spare him. Once he got wounded by Optimus and killed by Sam. He ALMOST got killed by Optimus. He did not want to die this third time. (Although, he DID die eventually)
  • Megatron has apparently become a bit more sensitive about his appearance in Dark of the Moon and uses a hooded cloak to cover his damaged face.
    • It is possible that the cloak also serves a dual purpose of protection. Since Megatron has taken up residence in the hot arid climate of Africa, it makes sense that he would cover his open wound from the sand blown in.
  • In the novelization of Dark of the Moon, Megatron is in worse state than seen in the film. A third of his face is missing, including his mouth (which is replaced by "Pure Energon"), which leaks Energon, and it takes him over a full minute to transform from vehicle to humanoid mode.
  • According to "The Quest For the All Spark" paperback's opening paragraph, "...Most revered were Optimus and Megatron. They were twin brothers of the Prime dynasty."
  • Early script drafts and a children's picture book featured Megatron consuming the sparks of his fallen foes, but this didn't make it into the final film due to time constraints. The novelization of the movie, on the other hand, sees him chow down on Jazz in the final battle; similarly, although not outright stated in dialogue, his animalistic pouncing on the fallen bodies of various characters (including Optimus Prime, Starscream, Jazz and the Decepticon Create-A-Bot) in the Movie Nintendo DS games, following by what appears to be rooting around in their innards, seems to suggest he's doing the same there.
    • Similarly, in the Autobots version of the same DS game, it is noted that Megatron "took the spark" of his and Optimus' father. Presumably, this is a reference to both his cannibalistic practices as well as the fact that both he and Prime are in fact brothers, at least in the Cybertronian sense.
  • Despite his undeniable hatred of humans, Megatron is the only Decepticon in the first movie who doesn't speak Cybertronian for the majority of his dialogue. In fact, he speaks fluent English upon reviving, despite the fact that Modern English came into existence around the Sixteenth century, when he was presumably still frozen in the ice. This could suggest that he still was somehow conscious when he was studied by Sector Seven (which he also overtly states upon awakening in the IDW comic adaptation). This would explain why his first action after thawing was declaring his name - imagine being frozen for generations being referred to as "N.B.E. 1", or even worse: "Mega-man" and "Ice-man".
  • The Megatron computer generated model consisted of 2411 individual pieces, 433,949 polygons, 8924 rig nodes, and 1437 texture maps. The pieces combined gave a volume of 10,325 cubic feet. Way too small isn't it?[1]
  • There are some problems with Simmons' statement about various technologies being reverse-engineered from Megatron. Cars came about in one shape or form at about the turn of the century, and spaceflight technology was pioneered by German and Soviet scientists. (This is possibly what they want you to think.)
  • His navigation system is on his finger.
  • Two of the nicknames Megatron is referred to by are Mega-man and Ice-man. These could be references to the Mega Man videogame series.
  • It was decided that Megatron would not be renamed Galvatron in Revenge of the Fallen for the sake of the general audience, lest the change confuse them.[2] A good decision.
  • In the intro movie of Revenge of the Fallen: The Game, Megatron's head is the rejected design from the first film. D'oh!
  • Megatron's tank mode in Revenge of the Fallen slightly resembles the Transtech Megatron's alt mode. It also resembles the Global Defence Initiative Predator tank, from the game Command and Conquer 3, especially in the layout of tracks up front. However, Predator is about the size of the Abrams and has a fully functional turret, and it's tracks actually consist of four blocks: one is the frontal half, the other trolley is the rear half, and like that on both sides.
  • Interestingly enough, This is the only other Megatron that has a mace.
  • In the first film, Megatron is killed and loses his left arm. In the sequel, he has half his face blasted off and loses his right arm. In the third movie, he is killed again and loses his head and spine. Seems like he never got lucky on Earth.
    • Since he came to Earth to get AllSpark, the AllSpark became a 'Cube of Ill-Omen' for him.
  • Megatron's death in Dark of the Moon has caused discontent amongst some fans, seeing as it made him look very weak. Having attacked and severly wounded Sentinel Prime, who had just beaten Optimus to near death (removing one of his arms in the process), one would have believed that Megatron stood a decent chance against Optimus. Not so. Megatron was quickly decapitated (or de-spined) by Optimus in less than 10 seconds with only one arm, resulting in the shortest fight in the entire movie trilogy. Many Megatron fans have felt he deserved a bigger battle and much more epic death, considering his role throughout the series.
    • However, he did take Sentinel by surprise and was probably still weakened from the penultimate Revenge of the Fallen battle and didn't expect Optimus to attack him. Still...
      • To be fair, Optimus was rather pissed at that moment.
        • Yet again, Optimus was beaten to a similar state during the forest battle in Revenge of the Fallen and still managed to temporarily overwhelm Megatron, Starscream and Grindor and according to the movie universe, his power level is at a level 5 while Optimus has a power level of 10.
          • If one looks closely enough, in the scene where Sentinel rams Megatron's head into a wall, one can see Sentinel remove something from Megatron's wound. This could have possibly caused extra damage; at least explaining Megatron's odd mood swings
  • Probably as a result of losing his fusion cannon arm in Revenge of the Fallen, he now carries a Gears of War Gnasher Shotgun or Lupara-esque rifle. It still has the power of his previous fusion cannon — at least sound for that matter. It does severly incapacitate Sentinel Prime, creating large wounds in his chest.
  • According to some of Josh Nizzi's concept art, Megatron's vehicle mode from the first film may not be an "Alien fighter of unknown origin". It may well be based on a Decepticon fighter craft, or vice versa.
  • In Dark of the Moon, Megatron finally gets a real hand rather than the weird uneven claw he had before. Only one though.
    • This is most likely due to having to replace his arm that was lost in ROTF with whatever was available rather than a true replacement.
  • Until Lockdown, Megatron was the only main antagonist in the movie series that wasn't a Prime.
  • In an earlier draft of Dark of the Moon script, Megatron is sincere when he offers Optimus Prime a truce at the end. Optimus accepts, and Megatron and the remaining Decepticons leave Earth to rebuild Cybertron (which wasn't destroyed). This ending is used for the novelization and the comic adaptation.
  • It can be noted that in the first two film's, Megatron fought in any and almost every battle, but in Dark of the Moon, Megatron fought only once — even though it wasn't even a fight.
