Smokescreen is one of many Transformers who would have been caught up in the interdimensional war between the Children of Primus and the Minions of Unicron.
What relationship he has to any other smokescreen, if any, is unknown.

Smokescreen was part of a soon-to-be-released Universe "Battle in a Box" set with Drench. Though tenatively a Target stores exclusive (according to Hasbro representatives at OTFCC 2004), alas, it was canceled.
In 2004, several test-shots appeared on ebay in a group, among them a redeco of the Armada Hot Shot toy, using the "Powerlinx Hot Shot" version with the retooled "serious" robot head. He would have come with a redeco of the Mini-Con Jolt.
