This article is about the weapon from Animated. For the Decepticon from Live-Action Film series, see Stinger (Movie).

They're actually both looking for characterization.
Let's see what you can see...

The Stinger is a weapon from the Transformers Animated continuity family.

The Stingers are the weapons of Bumblebee, Wasp and possibly Cliffjumper (Animated). The stingers are most often used by the Animated version of Bumblebee. They come out of the user's hands by spinning on the side of the arms. The weapon shoots electricity (COOL) but it can also combine with an EMP blast or magnet blast to be more powerful or to really make it powerful you could use Sari Sumdac's Key on Bumblebee to upgrade the stinger. Although it may backfire sometimes.

Toys

"Animated"

  • Bumblebee (Deluxe, 2008)
Bumblebee anim toy

The whole world wants his stingers not to stick out.

  • Bumblebee (Deluxe, 2008)
The two halves of his stinger weapon, stored in his forearms, can be flipped out and pegged together.
Due to support struts added inside his forearms to ensure durability, his stingers do not recede all the way back into his arms. There have also been some complaints that the socket in his left arm tends to crack easily, which makes the arm impossible to pose. Bumblebee was re-released alongside Blurr, Swindle and Blazing Lockdown. This version has slightly remolded forearms that allow the stingers to fully retract, but is otherwise identical to the original.
    • Bumper Battlers Bumblebee (Bumper Battlers, 2008)
This version of Bumblebee includes one slightly moving stinger.
  • Elite Guard Bumblebee (Deluxe, 2008)

OK, the stingers don't stick out anymore, so everyone's happy now right?

He retains all the play-gimmicks of the original, and his arm has been remolded to allow the stingers to recede fully.
  • Cyber Speed Bumblebee (Power Bots, 2008)
Bublebee comes with lights and sounds, including a stinger sound on the right arm, which has the stinger deployed, and a "punching" sound and extending fist on the left.
  • Street Patrol Bumblebee (Power Bots, 2009)
This version of Bumblebee has red stripes on his stinger arm.

Notes

MovieBumblebeeStinger

These would have been pretty good in the movie.

  • Bumblebee's stingers might be inspired by the weapons of another Bumblebee has in the film.
  • Cliffjumper is more identical to Bumblebee than Wasp (he even has a slightly more similar face) but never shows signs of having stingers so far.
  • Wasp's (or Waspinator) stingers aren't on the robot mode where they were earlier.
