I don't see any evidence in the Marvel Comics that Cerebros was not a pre-existing Autobot. Though Fort Max's TFU entry says "Fortress Maximus's head transforms into a robot form called Cerebros, which is controlled entirely by his binary-bonded partner," Cerebros shows up repeatedly (not just his head) in the Headmasters mini-series, and his proper introduction in Trial by Fire! makes no mention of his recent construction, referring to him solely as "another Autobot." For all the comics demonstrate, Spike can ALSO control Fortress Maximus entirely, and as Galan combines with Fort Max and Cerebros in that first appearance, he talks in identical phrasing about being able to control either. ("Through binary bonding I can now control Cerebros, and through Cerebros, I control Fortress Maximus!") I would say that Cerebros was a pre-existing Autobot who has very little say in this new arrangment. Observation: The animated version of Cerebros has a head that is pretty clearly based on Cog's head, rather than the Spike toy. Seems like his color scheme was Cog-y also, but I don't have any part of Rebirth handy to check and there's not enough visible in the screenshot. --Andrusi 18:45, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- Cerebros has the same head in the Marvel comic, and in fact Galen is seemingly engineered to turn into the Cerebros head rather than the Fortress Maximus head, although most of the time he's the Fortress Maximus head anyway because the art in Headmasters is ludicrously screwed-up. I have to assume it was an early head design before they decided it would be cute to have Cerebros and Fort Max have the same head design, but if so, it predates the early version of the Fort Max toy shown in the 1987 catalog. -LV 20:15, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
