Talk:USA Edition
From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki
A little note: Star Wars Transformers, as well as Titaniums, were/are distributed through Tomy Direct in Japan, even before the Takara/Tomy merger. Movie Ultimate Bumblebee and various other movie-related toys were also released in Japan in that fashion. As far as I understand it, Takara's "USA Editions" often contain minimal differences as compared to the Hasbro versions (even if it was only the packaging using a different kind of plastic bubble), while "Tomy Direct" releases are completely identical to their Hasbro counterparts other than additional stickers on the packaging.--Nevermore 23:28, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Alternate Japanese names of toys
I'd like to point out that we should only list alternate Japanese names (as compared to the Hasbro names printed on the packaging) if Takara actually officially referred to a toy by a different name. Retroactively applying another Japanese name to a toy just because "it's the same character as some other toy which had a different name in Japan" is a little bit like applying Hasbro names to Japanese-only variants ("Cybertron Sideways Production Type" or somesuch). So Energon Slugslinger was "Stormjet" according to Takara, the "USA Edition" versions of Cybertron Quickmix and Menasor were "Blender" and "Moledive", respectively... but RID Sideways was "Sideways", not "Doubleface".--Nevermore 10:53, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
