Transformers Wiki:User page
From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki
Registered users on Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki can create a 'bio' describing themselves.
This page resides in the 'user' Namespace at http://transformers.wikia.com/User:YourUserName. The simplest way to get there is to (when logged in) click on your username within the menu found in the upper-right of the page. This will take you to your userpage, which you can edit like any other wiki page.
You are allowed to upload one user picture for use on this page. If you think this picture may change in the future, you may wish to give it a generic filename like 'username_biopic.jpg' so that you can later upload the new picture over the old file. If you upload an entirely new file instead, please mark the old one for deletion by adding {{tobedeleted}} to its description.
[edit] User page etiquette
A user's page is 'theirs,' and editing another user's page for any reason but the obvious (spelling, fixing links) is considered rude. If you wish to get someone's attention, make a comment on their user talk page.
While a user's page is theirs, the user's talk page (User talk:Username) 'belongs' to everyone else; it is a public forum for discussing that user. When a comment is added to this page the user receives a notice next time they log in.
If a user has been blocked from editing pages, they are still allowed to edit their user talk page which may act as a forum to contest the terms or reasons for the ban.
While performing cleanup and maintenance to your own user talk page is considered fine, simply removing content (especially criticism) may be seen as an attempt to whitewash your reputation. Your user talk page is 'for' other users to talk to/about you; artificially curtailing that talk can be considered vandalism, especially if a user is under fire/banned. Persistent attempts to remove talk page content are one of the few things that can result in a user talk page being locked against all editing.
[edit] Sandboxes
The user namespace can support 'sub pages' in the format of User:Username/subPageName.
The wiki's structure makes these subpages very difficult for other users to 'see' unless they know they're there, which makes them ideal platform for scratchpads or experimentation, but a poor platform hosting important content for content. These subpages are collectively (and generically) called 'Sandboxes,' and are a place to store or test things without affecting the rest of the site.
Examples of Sandboxes:
- User:M_Sipher/Sandbox — A recent entry in the on-again off-again debate about imposing a standardized style on character profiles.
- User:Derik/Sandbox — This sandbox has been used to experiment (unsuccessfuly) with timestamp parsing and keep notes about the 2007 movie.
- User:FortMax/Cyber Key Code Status — Fortmax tracks emerging information.
- User:Andrusi/Attacktix Series 2 — Andrusi experiments with formatting and datakeeping.
- User_talk:Suki_Brits/Nightbeat — Debating a proposal to uglify the site.
- User:TX55/Sandbags 2 — TX55 keeps tracks of re-released combining toys. TX55 links to his sandboxes from his user page, this makes it easier for others to see them!
