User:Derik
From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki
You may know him as: Derik, Derik Smith, Regenesis0, or REDACTEDREDACTEDR[1]
On the wiki: Derik is notable for being the most-banned user currently active on Teletraan I. 2/3 of his contributions are on talk pages, and he tends to take an active role in shaping and interpreting wiki policies. Derik developed most of Teletraan I's templates. He has an above-average grasp of copyright law, and an acid-black sense of humor. He rigorously separates other users as those whose names he will bother to remember, and those he won't.
Period of Activity: 1999-Present. Active on alt.toys.transformers, has shunned most web-boards since its disillusion. Best known for his page indexing all the generic seekers of the Generation 1 cartoon. In 2008 he was made the official TT1 go-between to Wikia as a punishment— though whether for him or them is open to debate.
Type of contribution: Derik is a minutia fan, delighting in the obscure and seldom-seen. Has spent hundreds of dollars on old coloring and activity books for the Obscure Transformers books page. and prior to the recent (2001-on) resurgence in new Transformers media being produced, could be accurately said to have seen or read 95+% anything Transformers-related ever produced...including tech-specs. The late Euro ones suck BTW...
Abilities: Professional web-programmer cross-trained in communications theory and 'pattern finding' (Research and analysis.) Has spent over 2000 hours in Photoshop in the last decade in addition to formal training in video editing, computer modeling and compositing. Claims to understand Maximal/Predacon politics better than anyone else in Transfandom with little or no canonical evidence to back him up. He scores significantly lower in the "aspie quadrant" than the average Transfan. Derik is equipped with a portable hard drive containing scans of every Transformers comic ever published, which he consults on a moment's notice.
Weaknesses: Plays dirty while debating. Always thinks he's right. Often is right, reinforcing this bad habit. He neither reads nor speaks Japanese. Derik can be uncomfortably blunt (to the point of hostility) and personal when he wants to make a point with no room for misinterpretation— even with users he doesn't know. He is guiltily avoiding fellow-fan Hydra, whom he "done wrong by." His difficult personality combined with his unwillingness to remember the names of his victims often leaves him wondering what he ever did to piss someone off at him.
Okay, so here's the deal: Derik's ban has been dropped from a period of a year to a still pretty long three months, on the condition that right now he's on short probation. |
- I have... a disclaimer! This is so awesome. -Derik 18:01, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- "Objective journalism is one of the main reasons American politics has been allowed to be so corrupt for so long. You can't be objective about Nixon." - H.S. Thompson
Derik talks a good game, but he's really a big softy that goes all squooshy inside at the sight of kittens or Emo Boys kissing.
They're not just doing it for attention!
Derik can't spell woth a danm. Did you know Mozilla 2.0 has MS Word-style spell check on textarea boxes?
He can often be found late at night making long chains of minor edits to template pages. Derik doesn't do this at night to be considerate to other people- he just likes to delude himself into thinking he can do something quickly before going to bed, and then skips sleep.
Feel free to yell at him on AIM: ReGenesis0
Things not to message Derik about: (culled from actual conversation)
- "I just sent an e-mail to the executive producer telling him what he needs to do better."
- "Did you delete my post?"
- "I had drunken sex with another dude at a furry convention in Canada, what do I do?"
He's also apparently a Mut-Org, whatever the hell that is.
